Edward W. Ryder, 87, of Mendota died Sept. 27, 2008, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. Services will be at noon Wednesday in Victory Baptist Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Steve Breedlove officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is one hour prior to services Wednesday in the church. Arrangements were by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Ryder was born April 19, 1921, in Chicago to Frank and Annabelle Ryder. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by General Mills in Chicago as a machinist. He is survived by one daughter, Carol Witkowski of Mendota; one son, Daniel Ryder of Clark Ridge, Ark.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Memorials may be directed to Victory Baptist Church, Mendota.
