Eleanor Oberlander, 89, of Chestnut, formerly Mendota, died March 15, 2011, in Vonderlieth Living Care Center, Mount Pulaski. A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24th, in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Gary Blake officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements. She was born May 8, 1921, in La Salle to William and Kunigunda (Machmert) Nealand. She married Donald Oberlander on Nov. 9, 1941, in Hannibal, Mo. She was a member of VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary for more than 50 years and was a past president. She is survived by her husband of Chestnut and one sister, Dorothy Flaherty of Ladd. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Edward and Richard; and one sister, Barbara Crew. Memorials may be directed to VFW Post 4079 Scholarship Fund.
