Obituary

Elmer L. Sporleder, 89, of Sublette died March 9, 2012, in Amboy Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Louis Sari officiating. Burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery, LaMoille, with military honors by Mendota VFW Council 4079. Visitation is two hours prior to services Wednesday in the funeral home. He was born May 21, 1922, in Effingham to Henry and Eva (Slone) Sporleder. He married Phyllis Ansteth on Sept. 16, 1952 in LaMoille. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the 116th Signal Radio Intelligence Company.

He worked for Crane Potato Chips as a salesman and deliveryman
for more than 20 years. He was a bartender at Mendota Elks Lodge for more than 30 years. He was a member of VFW Post 4079 and Sublette Union Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Sublette; two daughters, Julie (Carl) Biederstedt of Sublette and Lori (David) O'Brien of Murphy, Texas; two sons, Kevin Sporleder of Sublette and Tony Sporleder of Amboy; five grandchildren; one brother, Rosco (Esther) Sporleder of Albuquerque, N.M.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Keith in 1999; two brothers and four sisters. Memorials may be directed to Sublette Union Church or Passages Hospice, Rockford.
