Evelyn Mathesius, 93, of Mendota Lutheran Home died April 23, 2011, in the home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m.= Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born July 15, 1917, in Sublette to Theodore and Bertha (Brauhn) Herrmann. She married Edgar Mathesius on June 14, 1941, in rural Mendota. She was a graduate of Mendota High School. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she volunteered as a seamstress. She also was a volunteer in the gift shop at Mendota Community Hospital. She was the manager of the Caron Yarn Store in Mendota for many years before her retirement. She is survived by one daughter, Linda (William) Basil of Mendota; two grandchildren, Brian Basil and Michelle Hartford; and four great-grandchildren, Madison and Chase Billhorn and Reis and Carsyn Hartford. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 12, 1994; one brother and four sisters. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Mendota Lutheran Home.
