Fern E. Weygand, 94, of Mendota died July 23, 2013, in Mendota
Community Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church,
Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Troy
Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Merritt Funeral
Home provided the arrangements.
She was born March 13, 1919, in Mendota to Sheldon and Bertha (Bauer)
Edgcomb. She married Frank Weygand on June 25, 1939.
She graduated from Mendota High School and La Salle-Peru-Oglesby
Junior College with a teaching degree. She taught school at Dimmick Country
School for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church,
Mendota.
She was a foster parent for many years, caring for more than 100 children.
In 1987 she was named Mother of the Year. She also was a driver for special
education children and transported them to various locations.
She is survived by three daughters, Kay (James) Ambler of Mendota,
Patricia (Charles) Garrison of Houston, Texas, and Jeanne Baron of Mendota;
two sons, William (Deb) Weygand of Earlville and John Weygand of
Mendota; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 18, 1997; one grandson;
and one brother, Dwight. Memorials may be directed to the family.
