Obituary

Francis Pohl, 84, of Illinois Veterans Home, La Salle died Aug. 7, 2008, in the home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Gardens, Mendota. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. He was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Aurora to William and Margaret (Rhodes) Pohl. He graduated Earlville High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Honky Dory Dairy in Mendota and Sip-N-Snack in Mendota. He was a 50-year member of Elks Lodge 1212 and a past member of Mendota Golf Club and Mendota Lions Club. He is survived by one son, Craig Pohl of Mendota; one daughter, Deb (Ed) Jasper of Mendota; two grandchildren; two brothers, Dave (Annette) Pohl of Mendota and Stanley Pohl of Wynne, Ark.; and one sister, Betty Soedler of Lake of the Woods, Va. He was preceded in death by one brother. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Veterans Home.
