Obituary

Frank J. Hrovat, 88, of Mendota died June 14, 2009, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota. Burial will be at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Hrovat was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Arma, Kan., to Josef and Mary (Trdin) Hrovat. He married Frances "Pat" Hoffman on March 9, 1946, in Oak Park. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota; VFW Post 4079, Elks Lodge 1212 and SNPJ Lodge No. 2 in La Salle. He was a graduate of Polk School in Arma, Kan., and worked for Civilian Conservation Corps at Mount Ranier, Wash. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He also operated Massey-Harris Farm Implement in Dimmick Township and was employed by Wayside Press in Mendota for 36 years before his retirement. He is survived by his wife; one son, David (Kathleen) Hrovat of Covington,Ky.; three grandchildren, Ann Hrovat, Jacqueline Sestito and Paul Hrovat. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank J. andone brother in infancy; and five sisters, Mary, Josephine, Victoria, Frances and Rose. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Lutheran Home or Fresenius Medical Care in Spring Valley.
