Obituary

Franklin "Lefty" Foulk, 99,
of rural Mendota died March 6,
2014, in his farm residence.
Services will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday in Merritt Funeral
Home, Mendota with the Rev.
Chris Heller officiating. Burial
will be at Restland Cemetery,
Mendota.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 18, 1914,
in Mendota to Arthur and
Alvina (Kromm) Foulk.
He married
Mary Lou
Thompson
Sherwood
on Feb. 4,
1958.
He was
a member
of
Immanuel
Lutheran
Church of
Compton,
Elks Lodge 1212, and was
active in many men's bowling
leagues. He farmed his entire
live in Brooklyn Township and
raised cattle. He was involved
in the production, distribution
and sales of popcorn to grocery
stores and other retail businesses.
He is survived by his wife,
Mary Lou of Mendota; four
sons, Michael Sherwood of
Champaign, Gary Sherwood
of Savage, Minn., Glen (Ann)
Foulk of Mendota and Lee
(Tracy) Foulk of Moline; one
daughter, Alison Walker of
New Jersey; eight grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by one brother, Elroy; and three
sisters, Marie Johnson, Ina
Kilmartin and Margaret Kidd.
Memorials may be directed
to Immanuel Lutheran Church
of Compton.
