March 2, 2014, in Pleasant
View Nursing Home, Ottawa,
where she resided since last
May.
Services will be at 10 a.m.
Monday in Merritt Funeral
Home, Mendota with the Rev.
Michael Morrell officiating.
Burial will be at Restland
Cemetery, Mendota.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m.
Sunday in the funeral home.
Frieda was born in
Brooklyn Township on Oct.
8, 1920, to William J. and
Louise (Roemmich) Zinke
and attended schools in
Compton and Mendota.
In January 1942 she married
Wilbert
Weitzel and
farmed with
her husband
south
of Sublette.
Following
his death in
1987, she
continued
living on
their farm
until hospitalized during the
spring of 2013.
She was a member of St.
Paul's Evangelical Church in
Bureau County until its dissolution.
She was an active
member of the cemetery
association and ladies aid
society. She later attended
the Presbyterian Church in
Mendota. For several years
she was a member of Sublette
Country Squares, a senior
citizen square dancing group.
At an early age Frieda
started sewing, quilting,
embroidering and crocheting
and made numerous blankets
and doilies for her grandchildren
over the years. She loved
life on the farm and spent as
much time as possible gardening.
No work was too burdensome
if it allowed her to
be outdoors.
She is survived by one
daughter Bonnie (Rick)
Patterson of Mendota; three
sons, Roger (Kathy) Weitzel
of Mendota, Richard (Rose)
Weitzel of Mundelein and
Ron (Marilyn) Weitzel of
Peoria; 10 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; five brothers
Wilbur, William, and Walter,
and two others in childhood;
and one grandson, Scott
Thompson.
