Obituary

Gail Ellen Lovgren (née Madsen), 71, of La Moille, IL passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025 surrounded by her family in her home. Gail was born on December 4, 1953 in Blair, Nebraska the daughter of Dean and Betty (Schmidt) Madsen. Gail had a servant's heart for her family, church and community. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Doug, for 52 years. They raised four kids on the family farm. Many years were dedicated to balancing family and farm life. Gail spent her days working, homemaking and tending to the farm hogs along side her husband and kids. Her life later expanded to include 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, which all became her greatest joy. Her love language was gift giving and she spent countless hours picking out the perfect gifts for her grandchildren and the people she loved. Gail made family holidays and gatherings filled with joy, as well as endless supplies of food, desserts and chocolates. Christmas was her absolute favorite time with family. The grandchildren will never forget her famous Christmas cookie "biscuits". After retirement, Gail dedicated more time to her church and community. She volunteered on the LaMoille Community United Methodist Church Mission Council, served at the FUMC annual turkey dinners and baked countless pies for church and family events. Her homemade apple pies were sought after by many. Gail spent summers planting and tending her flowers, adding trees to her big country yard and dotting her home landscape with bird feeders, lawn statues and ornaments. Her yard and patio became a retreat. It was a place to enjoy nature and family time. Her final days were spent in sunshine and fresh air on the farm. Her radiant smile never tired during precious family time. We are forever grateful for the years and hours we basked in her tender love. Gail is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Lovgren of La Moille, IL, and their cherished children: Lisa Carney of Springfield, IL, Leanne (Scott) Haage of Dawson, IL, Eric (Robin) Lovgren of La Moille, IL and Mitchell (Heather) Lovgren of Decatur, IL. She is also survived by 12 grand children: Abby, Danny (Katryna Tewes) and Kate Carney, David, Anna and Ella Haage, Luke (Nastasja), Dylan (Allie Collier), Brooke, Claire, Isak and Eva Lovgren; 1 great grandchild: Wren Lovgren; 3 siblings: Michael (Jennie) Madsen of Woodridge, IL, Kathy (Larry) Forristal of La Moille and Janet (Bill) Vickers of Phoenix, AZ.
