Galen B. Schammel, 71, of Mendota passed away Aug. 29, 2019 at Heritage Health Mendota.

Military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Lake Mendota presented by Mendota VFW Post 4079. A celebration of life will follow at the VFW Post.

Galen was born Dec. 16, 1947 in Mendota to Kenneth and Edna Schammel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Terry and his wife, Jeanette in 2014.

Galen was graduate of Mendota High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He worked as a fork lift driver at Del Monte for over 30 years. He was a member of the Mendota Golf Course, Mendota VFW Post 4079, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212 and the Mendota Moose Lodge.
