Garney C. Schultz, 96, of Cherry died March 19, 2017, in St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Bache Chapel, Van Orin with the Rev. Gene Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Van Orin Repose Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until of services Thursday in the chapel. Funeral arrangements are provided by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Garney was born Jan. 24, 1921, in Bureau County to Otto and Bessie (Hicks) Schultz. He married Lorean Zimmerlein on March 1, 1946, in First Lutheran Church, Ohio, Ill. She preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 1996. He married Doris Nickel on March 25, 1997.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Ohio. He farmed in the LaMoille area and also was employed by Woodhaven Lakes in the maintenance department.

He is survived by his wife, Doris of Cherry; two stepsons, Keith (Kathy) Nickel of Texas and Mark (Jill) Nickel of Peru; one stepdaughter, Lynn Simms of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Bart, Scott, Jeanette, Chris, Jennie, Becky and Brian; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Schultz of Sublette; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude, Frank, Harry, and Clarence; and three sisters, Ruth, Irene, and Crystal.
