Gary Harold Shaver, 86, of Mendota, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026 at Prairie Crossing Living and Rehab in Shabbona. He was born July 21, 1939, in Triumph, IL, the son of Harold and Arlene (Miller) Shaver.

Gary was a truck driver and motorcycle enthusiast for 68 years. He enjoyed going fast, mogen david, and the occasional cigar. He also loved guns, driving, family & friends and anything that made him laugh. We can never forget his amazing story telling talents! Gary was involved in A.B.A.T.E, the Earlville Presbyterian Church, and the Mendota Moose.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kurt Shaver; and grandsons, Waylon & Wes Shaver.

Gary is survived by the love of his life, Julie Olson; son Kevin (Loreli) Shaver; 3 great grandkids, Kylee, Clay & Kora Shaver; and way more friends & family.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, in Mendota with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wisner Cemetery.
