Genevieve Troupis, 83, of Mendota passed away peacefully
April 3, 2014, in Tucson, Ariz. She will be remembered in the
hearts of the many lives she touched.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United
Methodist Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell
officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday in Merritt Funeral
Home, Mendota.
Genevieve was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Chicago to Gerald
and Ruth (Royce) Hanna. She grew up in Galesburg with her
two surviving sisters, Kathleen Walter, who now resides in
Mendota and Alberta Morgan, who resides in Galesburg.
Her family later moved to Mendota where she attended
Mendota High School.
She met and fell in love with Andrew Troupis, her favorite
"Greek." Genevieve and Andrew married on April 29,
1950. She and her husband owned and operated the Kitch-Inn
Restaurant for more than 50 years, sharing their love for each
other, the community and their friends every day on the corner
of Illinois Avenue and Washington Street. Genevieve's wit
and humor always made everyone's day at the Kitch.
She filled her family and friends' hearts with love and
kindness. She was the mother to Theodore (Dawn) Troupis of
LaMoille, April (Albert) Bettilyon of Tucson, George (Karen)
Troupis of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Andrew (Dora) Troupis of
Chicago; grandmother to 10 grandchildren, Abby Sorenson,
Callie Hastings, Theodore, Dana and Brock Troupis, Alex,
Nicholas and Andrew Troupis, and Ashton and Ariel Troupis;
and great-grandmother to Sophia and Annika Sorensen. She
will be missed by all.
Genevieve was a lover of books and loved the Graves-
Hume Public Library in Mendota. Instead of flowers or memorials,
the family requests a donation to the library in her name.
