George A. Fountain, 77 of Mendota, left this earth to be with our Lord and Savor February 14, 2022, at Generations at Neighbors, Byron.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Jay Miller officiating. Cremation rites will follow and burial will be private at Restland Cemetery, Mendota at a later date. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
George was born November 30, 1944 in Thomasville, Georgia the son of Hoke and Pearl (Kirgan) Fountain. He was a longtime resident of Mendota where he met his wife Judy Kowalski and raised five children.
George was a man of God and a loving husband, brother and father. He enjoyed fishing, telling stories, building and repairing boats and making hand tied flies. He and his wife owned and operated Bait and Tackle in Mendota. He was a longtime member of the Mendota Moose Lodge and Victory Baptist Church in Mendota.
He is survived by his five children, Laura Chapman of Texas, Debbie (Tom) Terry of Depue, Brenda (Gary) Dobbs of Stillman Valley and David (Luanne) Chapman of LaSalle and Melissa (Robert) Collier of Tennessee; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Sarah Rodatz of North Carolina and Eleanor (Andy) Ridge of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1999, siblings Hoke S. Fountain and Jean Hensley, granddaughter Jennifer Terry and great granddaughter Jennifer Cloe Terry.
