Obituary

George C. Miller, 90, of Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota, formerly of Compton, died Aug. 18, 2009, in the nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. The Rev. Ken Foster will officiate. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mr. Miller was born March 10, 1919, in rural Compton to George and Mary (Volkert) Miller. He married Doris Northcutt on Nov. 17, 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1942, and was assigned as an airplane and engine mechanics instructor at Chanute Field, Ill. He was transferred to Seymour Johnson Field, Goldsboro, N.C., in September 1942, and remained there until May 1944. He then was transferred to Boca Raton, Fla., where he served 14 months as a crew chief and airplane technical inspector. He farmed in the Compton and Paw Paw area. He was a member of Compton United Methodist Church. Survivors are one daughter, Linda (Bruce) Faubel of Ladd. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 14, 2003; and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to Compton United Methodist Church.
