Gerald B. Nelson, 57, of Compton, died Sept. 21, 2008, in his residence. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota, with Deacon Vincent Slomian officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. He was born Jan. 3, 1951, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Alfred and Jean (Maybray) Nelson. He married Barbara Syversen on Oct. 6, 1971 in Kane County. He was a selfemployed drywall finisher. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Brandi Conley of Dixon; two sons, David Nelson and Jessy Nelson, both of Compton; one grandson; his parents of Compton; three brothers, Gary Nelson of Arkansas, Eddie Nelson of Compton and Bobby Dale Nelson of Carpentersville; and one sister, Brenda Leitzow of Sycamore. Memorials may be directed to the family.
