IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine
Kromm-Neal
April 28, 1922 – May 25, 2017
Geraldine "Gerry" Kromm-Neal, 95, of Mendota passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017, in Mendota Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton with the Rev. Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Gerry was born April 28, 1922, in Mendota to Howard and Adelle (Burd) Atherton.
Gerry attended school in Mendota throughout her early years and later became bookkeeper at Conkey's in Mendota.
She married Dale Kromm on Dec. 19, 1948. Dale and Gerry lived in the West Brooklyn area where they farmed and raised their family until 1978 when they moved to Wisconsin. They enjoyed the challenges of farming in two states. Gerry loved tending to the cattle and taking care of the farm. After Dale's accidental death Dec. 29, 1983, Gerry continued to farm in Mineral Point, Wis.
Gerry married Fountain Neal on June 28, 1987. Gerry and Fountain happily resided in the Compton/Mendota area where Gerry donated much of her time to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Gerry spent 40 years teaching Sunday School, which she loved so much. She also was a very proud board member and supporter of the early Kanteen, a local youth organization.
Gerry was an avid slide and photo taker of all Kromm family things which were carefully stored in her many photo albums. One thing that will always be remembered about Gerry is that she could always be counted on for a farm field lunch, served to her family hot and delicious.
Gerry is survived by her husband, Fountain Neal of Mendota; four sons, Stephen (Pam) Kromm, Robert (Luann) Kromm, and Timothy Kromm, all of West Brooklyn, and David (Laurie) Kromm of Mineral Point, Wis.; four stepchildren, Terry (Kris) Neal and David (Liz) Neal, both of Compton, Dennis (Carolyn) Neal of Rochelle, and Michael Neal of Madison, Wis.; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Eddie Atherton.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mendota Area Senior Services or Mendota Lutheran Home.
