Gilbert L. Pinter, 64, of LaMoille died May 1, 2010, in the emergency room at Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery with full military rites accorded by VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Pinter was born Jan. 11, 1946, in Peru to Henry and Hazel (Smith) Pinter. He married Frances Smith on April 24, 1976, in Princeton. He attended LaMoille Grade School and graduated from Rochelle High School in 1964. He later graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in finance. He served with the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany during the Vietnam era. Mr. Pinter worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, was a loan officer at State Bank of Cherry and an executive vice president at the First National Bank of Grand Ridge. He was an insurance representative for Aid Association for Lutherans and had worked for Pohl Insurance Agency and Tropp & Co. He currently was an independentinsurance agent in the Mendota area. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the board of directors of Public Action to Deliver Shelter, past trustee of Mendota Elks Club and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was active in church ministries. He was involved in many banking and insurance professional organizations. Survivors are his wife, Frances of LaMoille; two daughters, Janette (Luke) Welch of Sublette and Krista (Peter) McAndrew of Honolulu, Hawaii; one son, Eric Pinter of LaMoille; two grandchildren, Karagen and Tanner Welch; one sister, Carol (Jerry) Blumeyer of Stillman Valley; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother- in-law, Richard Smith. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota or PADS.
