Gladys Lawrence, 87, of 701 Meadowview Drive, Mendota died Feb. 1, 2009, in Mendota Lutheran Home. Private graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were provided by Merritt Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Sublette to Andrew and Cora (Winkler) Hubbard. She married Omer Sawin; he died in 1945. She later married Warren Lawrence. He died in 1963. Mrs. Lawrence was a graduate of Mendota High School and was employed by Burke's News Agency, Hart-Carter and Wayside Press, all in Mendota prior to her retirement. She is survived by two sons, Eugene (Elaine) Sawin of Mendota and Larry (Susan) Lawrence of Mendota; one daughter, Cindy Howell of Amboy; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Johnson of Arizona and Goldie Ponkus of Louisiana. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Lutheran Home.
