Harold Edgar Adkins, 96, of LaMoille died at 3:30 a.m. Aug. 9, 2009, in Liberty Village, Princeton. A private memorial service will be Wednesday. Cremation rites were accorded by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Adkins was born June 23, 1913, in Buda to Frank and Effie (Denton) Adkins. He married Cora Lord on Nov. 27, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed overseas. He owned and operated a trenching and tiling business in LaMoille for 35 years. He was a longtime member of LaMoille Fire Department and LaMoille American Legion, and served on the LaMoille town board. Survivors are one son, Hal Adkins of LaMoille; one brother, Gene; six grandchildren, Douglas (Dawn) Adkins of Maryland, Jack (Terri) Minwer of Florida, Michelle (Jay) Vandyne of Ohio, Rhonda (Rick) Simpson of Virginia, Tori (Jason) Sadnick of LaMoille and Tara (Mike) Robinson of Princeton; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora on April 24, 1983; one son, Ronald Adkins; one daughter, Claudia Minwer; two bothers; one sister; a grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be directed to the LaMoille fire department.
