Harrison A. Harmon, 97, of Mendota died Jan. 17, 2016 at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center, Mendota.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Henry Hein officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079.
Harrison was born July 27, 1918 in Burlington, Iowa to Harrison and Nellie (Selby) Harmon. He married Grace Rozhon on May 3, 1947. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 2002.
Survivors include one son, Michael (Linda) Harmon of Carol Stream; three daughters, Susan (Michael) Lydon of Friendship, Wis., Patricia (Richard) Fitzgerald of Naperville and Kathleen (David) Hein of Rockford; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Harmon of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Sharon; two brothers and two sisters.
Harrison was a 1936 graduate of Mendota High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He retired from the Navy after 12 years of service. He was also involved with the search for Amelia Earhart. He retired from the Milton Township Assessor's Office.
