Obituary

Henrietta A. Klein, 82, of Mendota, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023 at Allure of Mendota.

She was born July 16, 1941, to Louis and Josephine (Stremlau) Gapski in Peru, IL. She married Eugene E. Klein on November 26, 1960, at St. Valentine Church, Peru, IL.

She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota, IL as well as the St. Mary's Altar Society and Catholic Order of Foresters. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Henrietta was an avid book reader and always up for a game of cards or Scrabble.

Henrietta is survived by her husband of 62 years, Eugene, and children Brenda (Earl) Barnickel of Mendota, Keith (Alice) Klein of Sublette, Teresa (Bill) King of Triumph, and Elizabeth "Liz" Klein of Mendota. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: William (Cassie) Barnickel of Washington, IL, Brian Barnickel of Mendota, Matthew Klein of Schaumburg, Katie (Sam Rehberg) Klein of Madison, WI, Sean Klein of Sublette, Stephanie (Brennan) Reeder of Mendota, Skyler (Nikki Rybarczyk) King of Mendota and Kristopher Kody Worman of Dixon. She was also tickled with 3 great-grandchildren: Waylan and Jude Klein, and Brielle Barnickel. Also surviving, her brother Chester Gapski of Oglesby, currently a resident of the VA home in Peru. As well as a brother-in-law Charles "Gene" Galetti of Seatonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her 7 sisters – Clara Kostello, Mary (Mania) Liebhart, Eleanore Henry, Veronica Macchi, Irene Berg, Vivian Daniels, and Lillian Galetti and 3 brothers – Frank, Louis Jr. and William Gapski.

Visitation will be from 5 –7 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11 at Holy Cross Church, Mendota. The Rev. Jeffery Windy will officiate. An additional 1-hour visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Merritt's prior to services. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota, immediately following services.
