Howard O. Fahler, 91, of Mendota died July 18,
2012, in Mendota Lutheran Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Merritt
Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. David Tellinghuisen
officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday in the
funeral home.
He was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Mendota to Harry and Edith
(Holliston) Fahler. He married Roberta Bauer on July 11,
1946, in Dixon.
He was a 1939 graduate of Mendota High School and a
1943 graduate of the University of Illinois. He served with the
U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 1212, Mendota Lions
Club, VFW Post 4079 and American Legion Post 504. He
served as a director of Mendota Community Hospital board
and was a member of First State Bank board of directors from
1966-1991 and chairman of the board from 1976-1991. He
owned and operated Fahler Oil Co. in Mendota from 1946
until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife; two grandsons and one greatgranddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Meredith
Knopf and Pat Vicich.
