Irene F. Donovan, 93, of Mendota, passed away Friday, April 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 30, 1933, in Mendota, the daughter of Johnston and Agnes (Schneider) Roulston.
On June 9, 1956, Irene married the love of her life, Edward Donovan, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mendota. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, as well as spending time with Edward and the rest of her family. She also enjoyed her flowers and gardening. Irene took on the challenge of different career paths throughout her life.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Marlene Melau of Troy Grove; son, Gary (Donna) Donovan of Rockford; two grandchildren, Mitchell (Melissa) Melau of Troy Grove and Marissa (David) Trumper of LaSalle; six great-grandchildren, Noah, Chelsea, Jesse, Anthony, Isabella, and Axel; and seven great-great grandchildren, Logan, Lucy, Lyla, Amelia, Owen, Sadie, and Audrey.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Donovan; son-in-law, Montie Melau, on January 16, 2020; and five siblings.
Cremation care has been provided. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 17, 2026, at Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, in Mendota. Memorial Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Troy Grove Cemetery.
