James R. Bond, affectionately known as Jim, 81, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025. Born on July 29, 1943, in Sandwich, Illinois, he spent his early years on the farm in Paw Paw, before moving to the towns of Mendota and La Moille. He was a smart man, blessed with a resilient spirit and a compassionate heart. He was a dedicated husband to his wife, Carolyn, of 60 years.
James attended Paw Paw High School and Western Illinois University. He was a proud farmer and a seasoned John Deere equipment salesman. His passion for agriculture was evident not only in his career but also in his collection of antique John Deere tractors in which he was a member of the 2-cylinder tractor club. Jim's interests extended beyond farming. He was a loyal fan watching Duke and Syracuse basketball and was a youth basketball coach. He was also a loyal Cubs fan. His resilience and dedication were evident in all that he did, from his work to his hobbies.
James is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bond, his children, Jennifer Dinges and Geoff (Aimee) Bond. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, also known as "The Super 6", Jacob Bond, Anne (Mark) Jacobs, Jinnae Bond, Morgan (Rachele) Bond, Lane Dinges, and Peyton Bond. He is also survived by his siblings, Deb (Kip) Cheek, Cindy (Gene) Stephenitch, Candy Rabel, and Bob (Cathy) Bond. Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Bond, and his parents, James Sr. and Naomi Bond.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Zion United Methodist Church, 808 Jefferson St. in Mendota with Pastor Jeff Brace officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Mendota.
As Thomas Jefferson once said, "Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness."
