James Hampton, 58, of Mendota died Oct. 20, 2010, in a vehicle accident near Utica. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Richard Schaill and John Robinson officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. He was born July 24, 1952, in Mendota to Charles and Virginia (Trail) Hampton. He attended Mendota High School and was employed as a carpenter. He is survived by two daughters, Emily Hampton of Mendota and Christy Cain of Michigan; one stepson, Adam Goellner of Mendota; three grandchildren, Justin and Christopher Cain and Hunter Goellner; his mother, Virginia Hampton of Mendota; five brothers, John Hampton of Kansas, Joe Hampton of Indiana, Doug Hampton of LaMoille, Carmen Hampton of West Brooklyn and Paul Hampton of Mendota; and one sister, LuAnne Fuellner of Dixon. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and a granddaughter, Jordan Cain. Memorials may be directed to the family.
