James Janes, 94, of La Salle and formerly of Mendota, died Oct. 28, 2007, in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Peru. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Restland Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Maryann Meador officiating. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Janes was born July 13, 1913, in Decatur to James Elmer and Nettie (Whitley) Janes. He married Doris Braddy on Nov. 12, 1938, in Oregon, Ill. He worked for Del Monte in Rochelle and Mendota as a foreman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mendota, Mendota Elks Club 1212, Mendota Moose Club, Mendota Lions Club and past master of Mendota Masonic Lodge 176. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Birkey of La Salle; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandson; and one sister, Betty Hooley of Rochelle. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1987, two brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer?s Association.
