Obituary

James H. Kettleborough, 82, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of Mendota, died Sept. 22, 2010, in his home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Gary Blake officiating assisted by the Rev. Dale Malloy. Interment will be at Restland Cemetery with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were provided by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Kettleborough was born March 20, 1928, in Mendota to the Harrison and Gladys Kettleborough. Jim attended Holy Cross School, Mendota High School and Illinois State University. He carried mail in Mendota and taught and coached high school in Ohio, Dixon and Skokie before retiring from Niles West High School. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood during the Korean War. Jim loved teaching, golf, cards, crosswords, camping and having a beer at Main Street Station with his friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, the former Esther E. Simpson, whom he married Sept. 16, 1950. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary. Other survivors includes one son, two daughters,

and two sons-in-law, Teresa and Daryl Roston of Morgantown, W.Va., Daniel James Kettleborough of DeBary, Fla., Jan and Glenn Reeder of Normal; and three grandchildren, Ashlee Kettleborough, Nathan Reeder and Trevor Roston. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Kettleborough; and one sister, Nancy Joerger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 1250 S.
