James W. Widmer, 59, of Mendota died Sept. 20, 2016, in his residence.

A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church with the Rev. Joel Phelps officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., on October 8th with military honors by Mendota VFW Post 4079.

There will be no visitation. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling the funeral arrangements.

James was born May 19, 1957, in Mendota to Robert and Shirley (Munroe) Widmer. He served in the United States Navy. He was a member of Mendota VFW Post 4079, was a 1976 graduate of Mendota High School and was a self-employed carpenter.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Widmer of Princeton; two brothers, Rick (Robin) Widmer of Princeton and Rob Widmer of Mendota; and one sister; Patrice Lucas of DePue.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Mary Beth and Catherine.
