Jan Henry Schuster, 87, of Mendota, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Allure of Mendota. He was born October 31, 1937, in Earlville, the son of John Henry and Antonia (Still) Schuster. He married Judith Ann Cioni on September 1, 1962, in Spring Valley.

Jan proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  He worked as a lineman for several local Illinois Valley TV and cable companies. He also was a longtime farmer in the Mendota area. He enjoyed being outside cutting the grass, all the odd jobs and handyman work around the farm, and vacations with his wife, Judy. Jan was always willing to help anyone in any way that he could. He was a member of the LaSalle County Farm Bureau and loved attending farm meetings.

Jan is survived by his wife, Judy, of Mendota; two sons, Jeff Schuster of Dimmick and Jason (Sandra Hardesty) Schuster of Norridge, IL; sister, Hildegard Yops of Bel Aire, KS; and a niece and several nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jan is preceded in death by a brother in infancy.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe St. in Mendota with Pastor Elise Rothfusz officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.. Private interment will take place at a later date.
