Jerroll "Jerry" K. Swope, 76, of Compton, passed away July 22, 2022 at Heritage Health, Mendota.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Ken Foster officiating. Burial will be in Melugin Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Jerroll was born December 31, 1945 in Compton to Wendell and Elizabeth (Kehm) Swope. He was married to the mother of his children, Constance "Connie" Yenerich for 31 years and never remarried. She survives.
Jerroll was a member of Mendota High School FFA. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1963. He was a member of Lee County Farm Bureau. He raised hogs and farmed in the West Brooklyn and Compton area. He was a deputy and detective for for the Lee County Sherriff's Department. He was owner/operator of Swope Trucking and was a Brooklyn Township Road Commissioner for 12 years. He was a member of Mendota Elks Lodge and Mendota Moose Lodge. Jerroll was one of the people that if you met him once you'd never forget him with distinctive hearty laugh. He was very well known and always had a story to tell and was a big kid at heart.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Michelle Borell-Morris of Compton; his son Mark Swope of West Brooklyn; sister Marilyn "Toots" Ehlers of Princeton; two brothers Donald "Doc" Swope of Compton and Marvin "Butch" Swope of Michigan; 5 grandchildren, Jacob Swope, Kevin Swope, Bryan (Andrea) Borell, Kayli Borell and Zachary Borell and 4 great grandchildren Bradley Borell, Nicole Borell, Emersyn Borell and Wyatt Adams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lavila Archer and a brother Elroy Swope.
