Jerry A. Dempsey, 85, of Mendota died Aug. 9, 2009 at Mendota Community Hospital.
A private family graveside service was held with Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079.
Mr. Dempsey was born March 25, 1924 in Bethany, Neb. to Cecil and Marie (Koever) Dempsey. He married Darlene Mathesius on June 30, 1950 in Mendota.
Survivors include his wife of Mendota; one son, Rick (Marcia) Dempsey of Edwardsville; three daughters, Cindi Reppin of Mendota, Terri (Lynn) Holzner of Tonapah, Ariz. and Barbara (Jerry) Fischer of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Warren Dempsey.
Mr. Dempsey served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He owned and operated Dempsey Insurance & Appraisals in Mendota for 50 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
