Jerry D. Lewis, 75, of LaMoille died May 2, 2017 in Aperion Care, Amboy.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Dave Manion officiating. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m., Sunday in the Merritt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, LaMoille.
Jerry was born January 19, 1942 in McLeansboro to Bernard and Fay (Yarboro) Lewis. He married Sue Sondgeroth on January 12, 1973 in Ottawa.
Jerry attended Mendota High School. He worked at DelMonte and later he was the co-owner of Bob & Jerry's Shell in Mendota. He then was employed by Caterpillar in Aurora until he retired due to being disabled. Jerry always loved working, fishing and playing in a slow pitch softball league but most of all he loved his family. He was a faithful St. Louis Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan of LaMoille; his six children, Darla Kleckner of Mendota, Timothy Lewis of LaMoille, Jennifer (Lewis) Mooney of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Shannon Lewis of LaSalle, Jason Lewis of Jonesboro,AR and Amanda (Lewis) Manion; his mother, Fay Vaughn of LaMoille; 12 grandciildren, 7 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Barbara Lewis; one sister, Sandra Bergman; two brothers, Donald Lewis and Patrick Lewis all of Longmont, CO.
He was preceded by his father, his step-father, Robert Vaughn, and one sister, Sharon Davidson.
The family requests that in memory of Jerry, please feel free to wear jeans or casual clothes to his services. Jerry didn't enjoy wearing a suit and tie.
