Jerry Schultz, 75, of Mendota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after a three year battle with ALS.
Jerry was born on March 19, 1947 in Mendota to Claude and Doris (Wade) Schultz. He attended Van Orin Grade School and graduated from LaMoille High School in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Scriba on September 26, 1970.
He was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company for over 30 years. He served in the Illinois National Guard. He was an avid Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed gardening, keeping a meticulous lawn, woodworking, and reading. His lawn was awarded Lawn of the Month by the Mendota Garden Club. His other hobby included maintaining his 1968 red Mustang convertible. He enjoyed driving it on sunny days. He was active in his church, LaMoille Community United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees, was a member of the dartball team, mentored many youth members of the church and worked on local as well as out of state mission projects. He was the third generation of the Schultz family to attend the Methodist Church. His biggest joys were his children and his two granddaughters. He enjoyed watching all of them grow and become the persons they have become.
Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara of 51 years of Mendota; daughter Jennifer (Jeremy) Ring of Cherry; son Bryan (Alyssa Knutson) of Wisconsin and his two granddaughters, Emma Louise and Clara Grace, of Wisconsin. He is survived by two sisters Barbara Hurst of Virginia and Karen (Robert) Powers of Michigan. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald (Sandra) Schultz of Mendota, and Leslie (Patricia) Schultz of LaMoille, an uncle Ralph Schultz of Mendota, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church with Pastor David Jungnickel officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be Friday, June 3 from 5-8 p.m. in the church and one hour prior to the funeral service. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family. Masks are optional for all services.
