Joan Margaret Lamkin, 78, of Mendota passed away on December 28, 2015 at Heritage Health, Mendota after a brief illness. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30a.m., Thursday in Holy Cross Church with Father Bo Schmitt officiating. There will be no visitation. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota provided arrangements. Joan was born August 21, 1937 in Sublette to James and Mildred (Rapp) Manning. She is survived by one son, James E. (Chris) Lamkin of Gibson City, IL.; two daughters, Billie Jo Lamkin, of Phoenix, AZ, and Wanda Lamkin of Mendota; one sister, Kay (Mike) Scott; one brother, John (Donna) Manning of Mendota; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Mary K. Norton, one sister Anita Corrigan and two brothers, Robert Manning and Warren Manning. Joan worked at Westclox for several years. She loved to walk, play bingo and visit the casinos always seeking the elusive thrill of hitting a jackpot. She also loved sports especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and was sure 2016 was going to be their year. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
