JoAnne D. Riley, 83, of Mendota died Jan. 8, 2019, at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Mendota with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Cremation rites will follow the funeral and burial will be private at Restland Cemetery, Mendota at a later date.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1-3 p.m. in the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling arrangements.
JoAnne was born June 23, 1935, in Aurora to Walter and Eleanor (Boroughs) Dewey. She married Frank Riley on June 16, 1957, in Aurora.
She was a former member of West Chicago Congregational Church and then was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mendota.
She was a graduate of East Aurora High School. JoAnne and Frank provided foster care for 13 children. She assisted her husband, who owned and operated the West Chicago Animal Hospital for 37 years. She served as the secretary to the Principle at Glenbard East High School for over 20 years. She volunteered actively at her church, Mendota Christian Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels program, the Mendota museum, and Blackstone Elementary School assisting children with reading. Frank and JoAnne moved to Mendota from West Chicago in 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky (Chris) Kendziora of Columbus, Wis., and Kim (Ken) Goins) of Peoria; two sons, Frank (Barbara) Riley of Memphis, Tenn., and William (Merry) Riley of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2015, her sister Gerry, and one grandson, Mitchell Riley.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Vitas Hospice.
