John R. Fassig, 79, of Mendota died July 11, 2016, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident north of Utica.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with the Rev. Janet Lepp officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family with the arrangements.
John was born Feb. 24, 1937, in Mendota to Milton and Marjorie (Bieser) Fassig and grew up on the family farm near West Brooklyn. He married Betty Pohl on Sept. 2, 1956, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota.
He was a 1954 graduate of Mendota High School. John enjoyed a long career as a truck driver. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school and extracurricular events.
He is survived by one daughter, Paula (Nolan) Hallock of Tonica; one son, Tim Fassig of Princeton; five grandchildren, Shelby, Hayley and Amy Devitt, and Ben and Levi Hallock; three brothers, Duane Fassig and Norman (Joyce) Fassig, both of Mendota, and Lynn (Lynne) Fassig of Garland, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Amy Wyatt and Kathy Devitt.
