Joseph C. Kuebel, 90, of Sublette died Feb. 24, 2011, in Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Sublette, with the Rev. Max Lasrado officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Sublette, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday with a 5 p.m. rosary and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. He was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Sublette to Charles and Elizabeth (Dinges) Kuebel. He married Mary McCauley on Oct. 12, 1968, in Holy Cross Church, Mendota. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard 1942-46 during World War II. He farmed in Sublette Township and later owned and operated Joe's General Store in Sublette. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Sublette, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212 and Mendota VFW Post 4079. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Sublette; one brother, Charles (Florence) Kuebel of Sublette; two sisters, Rita M. Spitz of Amboy and Rose Biederstedt of Mendota; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and Alfred Kuebel, and two sisters, Mildred Leffelman and Mary Truckenbrod. Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross School in Mendota.
