Joseph H. McNally, Sr., 89, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle, formerly of Mendota, died December 25, 2019 in the care facility.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m, Monday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with military honors by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m, Sunday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Mr. McNally was born April 5, 1930 in Mendota to Joseph J. and Marion (Becker) McNally. He attended school in Troy Grove and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Bernadine J. Dose on June 21, 1958 in St. John's Catholic Church, Lostant. She died April 23, 1991. He drove a truck for Farm Supply in Mendota, then for Consolidated Freightways, Peru, until his retirement in 1993. After his retirement, he married Mary Lou (Grivetti) Pikula. During their marriage, they resided in La Salle-Peru, wintering in Arizona for several years. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota and later, a member of St Joseph Church, Peru. He served as an assistant scout master for Troop 102, Mendota, for several years when his sons were growing up.
He is survived by five sons, Joseph Jr. McNally of La Salle, John McNally and David "Tex" (Joanne) McNally both of Mendota, James McNally of Hanover Park and Michael McNally of Springfield; three daughters, Rose (Larry) Buckley of Sublette, Suzanne (David) Gaudette of Edwardsville, and Laura (Tracy) Knapp of Mendota; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Dissinger of Granville; three sisters-in-law, Virginia McNally of Cherry, Sandy McNally of Triumph and Marcia Thompson of Ohio, IL. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both his wives, three brothers, Donald, William and Robert, one sister, Mary Dankenbring, six brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and two nephews.
Memorials may be directed to Illinois Veterans Home of LaSalle, Holy Cross Church or School in Mendota, and Alzheimer's Association.
