Joyce Irene (Scott) Stein, 93, of Mendota passed away March 18, 2017, in Heritage Health, Mendota.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with the Rev. Janet Lepp officiating. Private burial will be at Restland Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Joyce was born August 10, 1923, in Dayton, Wis. Joyce married her USO sweetheart, Bob Stein on May 26, 1946, in Oregon, Wis. Joyce and Bob lived and raised their family in Mendota
Joyce graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Madison, Wis. She spent her 40-year nursing career in Mendota working for Drs. Harris and Musick and later with Dr. Schubert. She was a past-president of Mendota Nurses Club and a member of La Salle County Medical Assistants.
Joyce was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota. She was active in WELCA at St. John's, having served as president. Joyce was chairman of the Ruth Circle for many years and co-chair of Church Project Days for 10 years.
Joyce was active in her children's activities, serving as Campfire and Cub Scout leader.
Joyce enjoyed many activities with Bob during her retirement. She was past president of the Mendota Golf Auxiliary and played in several bridge clubs. She and Bob traveled throughout the United States, visiting friends, family, and landmarks.
Joyce was an excellent cook, always working from scratch and using the bounty from their garden. Even into her 80s, she would plan and cook delicious holiday meals for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joyce was very nurturing and caring to her family, her patients, and her friends.
Joyce is survived by her children, Cathy (Brian) Higgins of Cannon Beach Ore., Sandy (Michael) Kerns of Hemet Calif., Timothy (Mary Lou Pitstick) Stein of Geneseo, Becki Stein of Milwaukee, Wis., five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Gloria Renkert of Milwaukee.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents William and Kathryn (Maston) Scott; brothers Leroy and Bill; and her sister Dorothy Hanson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to St. John's Lutheran Church or an organization of the donor's choice.
