Judith Ann Merritt , 64, of Mendota died Aug. 20, 2011, in her residence. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Revs. Fredi Gomez Torres and Gary Blake, and deacon Vincent Slomian officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born Nov. 29, 1946, in York, Pa., to Gordon H. and Dorothy (Ulrich) Emig. She married Robert Merritt on Sept. 11, 1965, in West York, Pa. She graduated from West York High School in 1964 and Humboldt Airline School in Minneapolis, Minn. She owned and operated Mendota Coin Wash Laundromat since 1981. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and Mendota Hospital Auxiliary, where she was chairman of Meals on Wheels for 30 years. She received the Horace Hume Outstanding Service Award from Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce in 2008. She bowled in the Thursday night women's league at Mendota Elks Lodge for many years. She is survived by her husband, Robert of Mendota; one daughter, Kim (Jeff) Schimmer of Mendota; one son, Brett Merritt of Mendota; four grandchildren, Tori, Autumn, Harrison and Lauren Schimmer, all of Mendota; one brother, Don (Fran) Emig of Warrington, Pa.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross School or Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.
