Obituary

Katherine J. Funfsinn, 79, of Mendota, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022 at Heritage Health, Mendota, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 11 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.  Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Mendota with Father Peter Pilon officiating.  Burial will be at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Peterstown.
Katherine was born on June 16, 1942 in Mendota to LeRoy and Mabel (Earich) Heinzeroth. She married Leonard W. Funfsinn on June 15, 1963 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Peterstown.
Katherine was a 1960 graduate of Mendota High School and a member of Holy Cross Church. She worked in the Holy Cross School cafeteria for 19 years and also worked for H&R Block as a receptionist. Her volunteer activities included serving as an electoral judge for several years and counting church offerings with her friend Nancy Kaiser. Other past times included sharing lunch with her lady friends at Subway and Pizza Hut, having ice cream for dessert at Dairy Barn, watching and cheering her grandkids on at their sporting events while wearing her rockin' purple shoes.  She loved watching birds, the neighborhood squirrel, which mom named Freddy, and enjoyed doing Sudoku and word search puzzles.
Katherine is survived by two daughters Tina (Carl) Kittilson of Mendota and Beth Dewey of Sterling; 5 grandchildren Curtis, Jolene, Rachel, Patrick and Zachary; 6 great grandchildren; brother Keith Heinzeroth, Sr. of Mendota; two sisters Velma Schmidt of Mendota and Joyce Spanier of Rockford.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2014; three sisters Pearl Pfeifer, Dorothy Hunter, and Ruth Musser; three brothers Donald, Richard, and Wayne Heinzeroth.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Kittilson, Patrick Dewey, Zachary Dewey, Steve Sondgeroth, Tim Funfsinn, and Trever Richmond. Honorary pallbearer is Chuck Mann.
Memorials may be directed to Mendota Area Senior Services and Stonecroft Village.
Katherine's family wishes to thank all the staff of Heritage Health, Mendota, OSF St. Paul Medical Center, Mendota and Stonecroft Village, Mendota for their loving care.
