Kenneth Carl Galloway, 79, of Mendota died Aug. 16, 2010, in La Salle Veterans Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Gary Blake officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday with a 7:45 p.m. rosary at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. He was born March 4, 1931, in Sublette to Carl and Marie (Biers) Galloway. He served in the U.S. Army in Korean War. He was employed for 43 years in the printing business with Wayside Press and later R.R. Donnelley in Mendota. He volunteered at Mendota Community Hospital and was a frequent visitor at nursing homes. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Mendota and the American Legion of La Salle. He was a supporter of Relay for Life in Spring Valley. He loved the outdoors and flower gardening. He is survived by one daughter, Karen Torchia of Oglesby; three sons, Kent (Robbi) Galloway of Alta Loma, Calif., Michael (Shirley) Galloway of Colchester and Mark (Karen) Galloway of Sugar Grove; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Marge Galloway of Grayslake; two brothers, Bob Galloway of Keosauqua, Iowa, and Jack Galloway of Madison, Wis.; and the mother of his children, Elaine Eichorn of Mendota. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Paul Francis and Carl Jr. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle or American Cancer Society.
