Larry Eugene Phillips born August 16th 1949 to William Herbert Phillips and Viola Mae Sheffield in Crump, TN. He moved to Chicago, IL as a young child, growing up Larry knew he wanted to serve his country. In 1967 he proudly enlist in the US Army serving until 1970. He was quickly promoted to Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry 1st Infantry Division Fort Riley, KS 5th US Army. This courageous solider was awarded a National Service Medal, an Armed forces Expiditionary Medal and Two Overseas Bars. Life after the army was looking up for him, marrying Betsy Rodriguez in 1972. The couple was about to embark on the journey of life having 5 beautiful children and 53 wonderful years of marriage. Larry is survived by Wife Betsy, and his 5 children. Riley (Courtney) Phillips of California, Theresa (Michael) Blaine of Rochelle, David Phillips of Sublette, Paul Phillips of Compton and Caylan (Morgan) Phillips of Amboy. He was also survived by 13 grandchildren Alysa, Austin, Andrea, Taylor, Alex, Blake, Jaxen, Jacey, Jett, Jonah, Dylan, Hunter and Mia. Larry is also survived by his Brother Nick Phillips of Michigan and many more loved ones. Can't forget his beloved k9 friend Abbie.

Proceeded in death by his Parents his brother Kenneth and sisters Shirley, Rita, Pam, Debbie. We are very proud of the man and Veteran he was, he will forever be missed.

Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 PM Sunday, December 7, at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, Mendota, IL. Funeral will be 11:30 AM, Monday, December, 8 at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota. Military honors will be provided by the Mendota VFW and United States Army National Guard.
