Lawrence "Larry" E.  Wujek, 72, of Mendota, passed away on February 20, 2021, at his home.

Larry was born March 21, 1948, in Mendota to Steve and Ann Marie (Schmitt) Wujek. His parents preceded him in death.

Private family graveside services will be Thursday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with Father Peter Pilon officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.

Larry is survived by his son, Stephen (Maricel) Wujek and two grandchildren, Makayla and Patrick, of Clearfield, Utah; brothers David (Cheri) Wujek of Galesburg and Richard (Vicki) Wujek of Mendota; and sisters Peggy Heinz of Bloomington, IL, and Diane (Richard) Lang of Germantown Hills, IL. He was loved by his five nephews and nieces.

He was a 1966 graduate of Mendota High School. After high school, Larry, serving in the United States Army, was deployed to Vietnam for 22 months and did two tours of duty. He took pride in being a veteran. After returning from Vietnam, he joined his father as a carpenter in Mendota and continued in the trade after his father's death in 1975. More recently he was employed as a machine maintenance worker for Del Monte in Mendota. In his younger days he was an avid bowler and continued to be a Chicago White Sox and Bears fan. Later in life Larry became an avid coin collector. Larry had a dry sense of humor and could deliver one-liners with the best of them. He was always generous with his time and with the loan of his carpentry tools to friends and family.

Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice, Mendota VFW Post 4079 or the donor's choice.
