Lawrence L. Bertolin, 93, of Illinois Veterans Home at La Salle, died Jan. 9, 2012. A memorial Mass will be in St. Patrick's Church, Arlington at a later date. Burial will be at Royal Palms Mausoleum, St. Petersburg, Fla. Local arrangements were by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Bertolin was born April 28, 1918, in Downers Grove to Leo and Lucille (Hassler) Bertolin. He married Elizabeth Jeffery on Sept. 2, 1939, in Downers Grove. He was employed as a carpenter before retirement and had served as a volunteer firefighter. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Oleson of LaMoille; two sons, David Bertolin of Boulder, Colo., and James Bertolin of Longmont, Colo.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Charlotte Alkire of Naperville. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, James. Memorials may be directed to the donors choice.
