Lawrence C. Rapp, 91, a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Sublette, died July 26, 2010, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. William Ultch officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday in the funeral home. Mr. Rapp was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Sublette to Irvin and Lillian (Wallentine) Rapp. He married Helen Brown on Oct. 6, 1945, in Cherry. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 453 Bomber Group during World
War II where he was a copilot on B-24s. On his crew's 14th mission, the plane was forced down and had to land in Switzerland. He was a member of American Legion Post 540. He farmed in the Sublette area for 35 years. After retiring, he did volunteer work with the Roving Volunteers in Christ Services throughout the eastern and southern parts of the country. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Mendota; one son, Charles (Judy) Rapp of Mendota; one daughter, Joanne (Tim) Spencer of Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eleanor (Clifford) Albrecht of Ohio, Ill. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.Visits: 0
