Obituary

LeRoy R. Wagner, 93 of Mendota passed away April 15, 2019 at Mendota Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, Mendota with Rev. Hogun Kim officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
LeRoy was born July 19, 1925 in Ophir Twp., Il. the son of Harvey and Florence (Roux) Wagner. He married Betty Lou Otterbach November 17, 1943 at Zion United Methodist Church.
LeRoy grew up on the family farm in Wallace Township, Il. He was a graduate of Mendota High School in 1943 where he participated in football and track. He farmed his entire life and was a breeder of Registered Hereford Cattle. He was also employed for the final five years at the ASHO Project in Ottawa working in the in the testing of soils for the construction of Interstate 80. He was a faithful member of Evangelical Methodist Church in Ottawa and then a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church after his retirement from farming and he and his wife moved back to Mendota in 1990. LeRoy was a Past Master of Masonic Order and a member and past president of Mendota Lions Club. He will be missed by all who knew him but will be remembered as a true friend and also a gentle and loving husband, father and grandpa.
He is survived by his wife Betty of Mendota; and three children they were blessed to have, Connie (Tom) Meade of Bossier City, LA., James (Pauline) Wagner of Sun Prairie, WI., and Kent (Janel) Wagner of Huxley, IA.; nine grandchildren Jeffrey (Karen) Meade of Bath, NC., Jay (Erika) Meade of Carrolltown, TX., Mindy (Kris) Blaylock of Benton, LA., Lindsey (Zachary) Goodman of Minden, LA., Jennifer (Ryan) Soy of Olathe, KS., Bradley (Merissa) Wagner of Castle Rock, CO., Ryan (Sarah) Wagner of Tempe, AZ., Adam Wagner of Texas and Joshua of California; sixteen great grandchildren and three nephews Joe Otey of Kansas City, KS., John Otey of Amissville, VA., and James Otey of Neosho, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Velma Otey, brother in law Frank Otey and father and mother in law Roy and Leona Otterbach.
Memorials may be directed to the Zion United Methodist Church or Mendota Lutheran Home.
