Linda Kurtz, beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026, at Prairie Crossing Living and Rehab in Shabbona, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 9, 1953, in Amboy, the daughter of Oran and Shirley (Gilbreath) Kent. Linda graduated from Amboy High School in 1971 and built a life centered around family, laughter, hard work, and making memories with those she loved most. Linda was united in marriage to Robert Kurtz on June 12, 2000. Together they shared many years filled with love, companionship, and adventures.
For many years, Linda worked at Heritage Health, where she formed lasting friendships and touched countless lives with her kindness and humor. Outside of work, she loved crocheting, traveling, spending time with her dogs, and bringing joy to everyone around her. Some of her happiest moments were spent in the passenger seat, singing along to songs, talking for hours, and making every drive memorable. One of Linda’s greatest gifts was her ability to make people laugh. She could brighten even the hardest days with her humor, quick wit, and unforgettable personality. Her laughter was contagious, and being around her meant sharing smiles, stories, and moments that will never be forgotten.
Linda is lovingly survived by her son, Jeremiah Nantz, and daughter-in-law, Becky Nantz; her cherished grandchildren, Mariah (James) Baxter, Alyssa McCauley, Finn Sessler, and Summer Nantz; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Bentley and Briella Baxter. She is also survived by her brothers, Rick Kent, Lonnie Kent, Alan (Diane) Kent, and Darrell (Karena) Kent; along with her sister-in-law, Deb Kent.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; daughter, Tracy; brother, Mike; sisters-in-law, Gloria and Marleen; and nephew, Dustin.
Her family will forever remember Linda, or "Nana" as her grandchildren called her, for her warmth, sense of humor, strength, and the love she gave so freely. Though her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of all who knew her, the memories she created will continue to bring comfort and smiles for years to come. Though deeply missed here, her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited in Heaven with Bob and many loved ones who passed before her.
Cremation care has been provided. A celebration of life service will take place at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, in Mendota with Pastor John Kalebaugh officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Contributions in Linda's name may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
